characters stamp by KrisiChiki characters stamp by KrisiChiki
EDIT: Due to a recent comment I received, I just wanted to remind everyone that this stamp and comment (below) was posted in 2008. The way I expressed myself might have been wrong back then but it's been years since then....

This stamp is about loving your creations, your characters and giving them proper attention and proper development. Favoring a character over the other, Mary Sue characters, stolen/copycat characters and the like are boring. Create interesting, unique characters. Don't delete the ones you don't like, improve them. Don't glorify the ones you like, every character deserves attention.

Comments/Description:
it's so fun to make stamps! I think I will make more.
I tried once, I failed and I never tried again until today :3

About this stamp...well...

Yes I do love all of my characters. I created them; I love them. Your characters are the ones who will always be with you.
For me, they are like my friends. I love them so much  What about you?
They are all part of you. They have part of your personality even a little. Think about it. Even the bad ones, the enemies. Even they have something from you. You can't just go ahead and delete them as if they mean nothing. If you don't like them then redesign them but do not delete them.

I have many other characters than the ones you see in my gallery. Some of them are still fancharacters. They are simple. They are ugly. However, I still love them and I've promised to myself that one day I will redesign them, too. One day I will come up with new ideas, new stories for them. Then it will be their turn to shine.

I hate people who delete their characters (at least give them to somebody who will love them! Give them for "adoption")
I hate people who give all their love to their main character and the secondary ones or the enemies are left aside.

My stamp is not perfect, like people, like our characters but I hope you received my message.

If you read all the things above I thank you very much for spending your time reading.

I hope those people who doesn't care about their characters will change. I hope you could understand how I feel.

You can call me crazy for doing all this about some fictional characters but the answer is simple. I'm not crazy it's just that YOU don't understand.

I think having a character. Created by you. That is you. It's one of the best things that you could have.

I mean, I love my characters too ^^ if I ever plan a little adoption thing it would be with brand new characters created just for the occasion. I wouldn't be able to give up anyone with significant sentimental value.

I know the feeling, I've been trying to  re-write my first "anime" characters multiple times but they always end up mutating into new characters with new stories. I just can't change/ give up my girls...

I don't get how anyone could find this stamp offensive.  Some stamps are obviously going to be controversial, but I don't understand how loving all of your characters could possibly be controversial at all :o.

I've only ever deleted one character, for personal reasons and extreme hatred for the character.  Having said that, I do have a lot of characters, and a lot of them do tend to get ignored, simply because, having so many characters, I don't really have much for all of them to do.  Still, important or not, I do love (almost) all my characters :).

Some people found my artist's comment offensive because I threw the "I hate this" and "I hate that" around.
I wasn't seriously hating on people at the time but I wrote whatever came to my mind back then. Of course, I could erase the artist's comment altogether and write something proper but I don't particularly like going back and changing such things because I like looking back at what I used to do and how I used to write and/or express myself and therefore see how much I've changed or improved over the years.

..well if it's something really embarassing I'd erase it though hehe.

Although, perhaps I could add a new paragraph and explain this stamp better sometime. P:

OMG!!!! thank you sooooooooooooo very much for this stamp, I think the same, my characters are my kids for me, and I truthly love all of them in the same way, I don't have a favorite, because all of them deserve love and attention, that's why sometimes it paind me seeing characters that are hated by their own creators, I don't said anything to not create controversy, but with my close friends here I talk with them about this because one of the, have a favoritism (almost fetishist) love for a selected group of her characters, and the ones who are "enemies" of them she hates them despite she is the one who decided that in the fisrt place

in any kind of story, most readers can usually feel the kind of emotion the creator/writer had for the character and what intention was really put into them. I sometimes happen to come across stories where the author was either trying to glorify one char by the way they talked about them, or were absolutely disgusted by another character. But in my opinion, such strong emotion showing from the author isnt a sign of good story-telling skills. A story shouldnt be the mirror of the author's ideals or desires, the focus should be the story, and the story only. Influences of the author will make a reader that doesnt emphasize the author's emotions feel distant and draw them away from the storyworld back to the real world.
To me, creating a character just to direct your hate at it its very much like a woman giving birth to a bastard child of a rich celebrity just to sue the father to make payments for it, but never actually caring for the child itself(in the most general sense, i know that the later is much worse.) I'm just trying to say that the intentions are generally wrong.
If your friend desperately wanted a villain, maybe she should consider making them believable, giving them some other goal in life than just kicking the protagonists ass, maybe even a motiv that makes them more humane or even lets the reader feel compassion with them. Those are the truely strong stories that are hard to muster, tearing the reader between two factions, which only appear to be either good or bad to the other side but in truth neither is entirely either. They're a true challenge to accomplish for any story teller, they will invoke stronger interest and impact on the reader and they will give the reader a 'lesson for life' impression.
A villain hated by everyone and who just tries to kick the hero's ass because they stand in the way of their evil intentions? We've heard that story a million times...

(sorry for being soooooo late in reply)

wooow, I enjoyed readin your comment :)

Im agree with you, an author have to feel the same way to aaaaaall his/her character, because if the character have a *favorite*, it will be super-obvius, because the problems of that character dont really affect it, and since the start it have the story won

youre right, to create a character that the author itself hate, is like having a kid just to have a punch-bag, and some persons tend to suit the story and the world, just to have their favorite happy safe and sound, when there are the characters that must suit their wolrd and the story, specially if they are the principals, they have to bend twist even broke to suit all the things that are happening around

I know, even she got completly irrational when I told her, that I stared to pity one of her villians characters, she becomes mad at me and even try to make me hates him saying, the typical, a heartless moster blah blah blah, and talking super-goodies things about her *good ones*and to be honest they was so fucking borring, a King that was a complete push-over, and a total worthless weakly that only wait until the king comes and save her, but well, I managed to knock some sense into her (with the help of her Best Sis) and shes improving

I know a total cliche...

Way to get worked up over something I wrote like..what? 5 years ago? I was probably about 15 when I wrote that lol.

I suppose the "hate" part was a little too much but I didn't write it with real hate and honestly, I couldn't care less about what people do with their things. I'm not sure who or what I had in mind when I wrote that..which I repeat, was 5 years ago O.o

I'll have to disagree though, all of the characters someone creates are part of themselves even if they have the complete opposite personality. You can't create something with no experience or knowledge and when you acquire either or both of those things they become part of you therefore every single character is a manifestation of your own emotions, thoughts, morals, knowledge and experience that is further twisted, changed, exaggerated etc. Even that villain that has morals and values opposite of you was born from your own morals and thoughts that were twisted and changed to fit them.

And..where did I say anything about all the characters starring? I suppose you interpreted what I wrote wrongly but giving love to secondary/villain characters doesn't equal having them starring in the story. However, somehow who knows how to handle characters well they can put depth even in minor character. Avatar The Last Aidbender is an excellent example.

And for the record, I'm studying cartoon, comics that include character creation and story/plot creation. Already on my second year. I know very damn well how character creation and development work as well as how good stories and plot elements work. Aren't you the one criticizing here making all these assumptions?

"We're not well into our thirties, we're well into our TEEN years. We're still growing and still changing our minds all the time."

You said it yourself. Next time before getting upset and worked up over something check the date it was posted and maybe the artist's profile. Before getting old and wise, we all start out as young and stupid.

Written language is not the same as spoken one, the choice of words and phrases can easily come across as being upset or worked up.

I consider knowledge as part of you, just agree to disagree.

Your comment wasn't feedback nor was it constructive; you were just calling me out on something I wrote years ago that doesn't even apply to my current beliefs. However, the main point of this stamp has always been what =kessiR said; the fact that all characters, minor and major, need to be worked on and need love so they can be proper characters, thus I didn't take down the stamp.

Besides, giving feedback on something that's so old is quite silly. People change and skills improve over time. If you want to give feedback, go to the artists' latest works. That's were the feedback is needed. That's common sense.

Are you going to tell me now that I need to erase/delete everything I've done, written or drawn years ago because it's no longer what I believe, think or do?

I think it's pretty obvious that someone no longer needs feedback on something that was submitted so many years ago but that doesn't automatically make it a necessity to disable comments.

It's like you're saying I should disable the comments on all of the artworks I submitted 5 years ago because I don't want feedback anymore. I don't need to do that because nobody's going to give me a constructive comment on how to improve my anatomy because I've already improved in such a big time frame.

The only reason I responded to you, while I don't respond to the "cool!" comments, it's because of your aggressive tone but

I should have linked it from the start and ignored you all along since this isn't going anywhere.

Either youre conservative enough to believe your opinion should be the absolute truth of the world and think no one should have one even remotely straying from yours, or you're just butthurt about something. Honestly, you're getting worked up over another person's opinion which is the entire opposit of what you believe in, big deal?
Theres no need to be offensive about something someone posted years ago, when their view might've changed by now.
Of course there need to be minor chars, but that doesnt mean the author has to love them less just because they're minors, does it? It doesnt necessarily mean they need to be the hero of the story instantly. What counts is that the author put their soul into their work and shaping the characers at the time they made them, spent time thinking of their looks, personality, past or researched about something that makes the character who he/she is, EVEN as a sidecharacter, and thats all that really matters. Just shitting a character on the floor to rot there doesnt make a story good, because the character will lack substance and every minor character will be just like the other simply because the author didnt care.
Of course chars that are made from the spur of the moment to fit a certain scene can easily forgotten. But even they need to be shaped properly to not make the story dull.
In my opinion, thats all the one that made this stamp really wanted to get across.

I have so many villains in my stories because my problem is that I can't have a villain in a story and take them seriously unless they are 3-dimensional, not generic. Unfortunetly, once I have succeeded in making a character that life-like, I automatically care for them. So it has been four years since I created the main villain in my stories, and she was supposed to be destroyed... well, four years ago, but I just couldn"t do it. Sorry heroes.

I have lots of characters and so far, there's one character I can't stand and that would be my main character's ex-boyfriend. He is a very good-looking guy who gets all the ladies, he lies, cheats and uses everyone and is basically a self-important, all-around asshole. That is his actual role, but that doesn't mean I have to like him. X)

That was a way of speaking. I don't literally hate them. I don't even know them to begin with. I'm aware that my choice of words there was not the best.

That text is so old anyway. Although I don't want to write a new proper one because I'm not a fan of editing things from the past. This might be irrelevant to the actual text and subject in question but I prefer to leave my "mistakes", so to speak, so I can learn from them.

Also, as I recall, there was a particular event that stirred my will to actually make my beliefs into a stamp. Said beliefs would be the fact that I consider original characters (and stories) to be a real treasure. Perhaps, I should make a new stamp as this one is quite outdated I guess.

I have made multiple creatures all spread out on different books as doodles. I am trying to unite all of them by searching old books for any forgotten creatures and drawing them on proper pages. I have still to search for more and I will feel so proud of myself when I find all of them and draw them properly :) I will never abandon or delete them from my memory. It's like they have a life of their own.

Though I feel this way today, I really wish my younger self had. I had written a short story that involved a rather extensive cast (it was a spy crew, with a lot of the characters having personalities that were stereotypes blown up to hilarious effect) and I thought the story was great. Cool adventure, pretty funny dialogue, and good grammar.
Then I let the Internet take a look.
Needless to say, my ten-year-old heart was broken, the characters lost for all eternity in the black hole of cyberspace known as "Empty the Recycle Bin". Learning from my mistakes, I make sure to edit properly, make sure that my characters don't look like Sues, and not let the Internet look unless I'm certain it's either my best work or I won't give a damn when someone doesn't like it. And, of course, I'm still improving and try not to let myself forget that. Though sometimes I still have an ache in my heart from this event...
Come on, show of hands. How many people has this happened to?
